EMDR Therapy Quarterly

We have successfully formed a SIG on our mutual experiences and interests in neuropsychology and EMDR. The goals of the SIG are to develop possible treatment procedures about how EMDR can benefit people who have experienced acquired brain injury (ABI), stroke and whom may be living with dementia or other neurological long-term conditions. In addition, we are specifically focused on support for carers and care givers to clients with these difficulties. We have published an article in the Winter 2025 edition of ETQ titled, What can EMDR offer people living with dementia and their carers? We have also been invited to speak at an upcoming EMDRIA event, EMDR and other Strategies for Aging, Older Life Stages, and End-of-Life Issues, which is due to take place in October 2025. This event will explore what EMDR can offer people living with dementia and their carers.

We have also attempted to publish updated guidance on how to adapt the standard eight-phase EMDR protocol with clients who have sustained an ABI, drawing from our collective experience of clinical neuropsychology. We plan to expand our remit to complete systematic reviews of the evidence base for using EMDR with stroke populations as well as people living with dementia. We also plan to do a webinar on how to write a case study with a Neuro EMDR focus in the near future and then we plan to write a case series on this important work for joint publication. We are also considering how EMDR can be used as a type of early intervention in mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) to see if this may help with adjustment to this experience and prevent post-concussion symptoms.
