Update from the Equality Diversity and Inclusion Committee

We all witnessed and continue to witness, to some degree, events that cause significant pain, fear, danger and anxiety within both local, national and international communities. For some, these events may feel distant, while for others, they are all too close, affecting their neighbourhoods and even their homes. This trauma is being felt by the public, our clients and our colleagues. This, of course, applies to the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee (EDI) too, and this impacts on the work that we have been able to do. We continue to work on embedding equality, equity, diversity and inclusion (EEDI) into the Association’s work in the following ways.

EDI committee member recruitment

The EDI committee are searching for members to join the EDI committee. Those with lived experience and a passion for EDI are encouraged to apply. Please find more information here

Event guidance and support

We are collating guidance to make our events accessible. These are working documents, so they will be reviewed and updated periodically or when information comes to light. We hope for this to be available soon.

EMDR clinical supervision to low-income charities

We are aware that many consultants already offer reduced fee supervision to low-income charities, and we are currently integrating consultants who can offer this into the ‘find a therapist’ function on the website. This will be emailed shortly to all consultants.

We are also thinking about ways we may be able to support low-income charities in accessing standard EMDR training. If you have any experience in setting up a hardship fund, please do get in contact.

Webinars

All webinars relate to EEDI, and presenters are being asked to demonstrate how they have thought about this in the CPD application forms. There are a few webinars taking place that may be of interest. These include Jasminder Bahia, talking about acknowledging our unconscious and implicit bias and the implications for this on our work as EMDR psychotherapists. Amy Beddows, on victim blame and trauma-informed spaces, and Joseph Yaskin’s clinical toolbox for adaptation of EMDR therapy to people with intellectual disability. There will also be a presentation from Russ Hurn, president elect and EDI Committee member, regarding EEDI. More information about webinars and the Consultants’ Day can be found here.

Continuing professional development applications and evaluations

Thank you to members for the feedback regarding the CPD and the evaluation forms. We will be reviewing these documents. Please do continue to share your thoughts so we can continue to develop.
